Legal eagles on a high with city centre office

A NORTH Lincolnshire law firm has cemented its expansion into Hull after opening the doors to a new  city-based practice.

Pepperells Solicitors, moved into an office in Alfred Gelder Street, opposite the Guildhall, in November after acquiring Ivesons Solicitors in Bowlalley Lane.

Following an impressive refurbishment, the firm transformed the 5,920sqft office in Hull’s historic Old Town and by December staff had begun moving in.

Pepperells was founded in Scunthorpe 25 years ago, while Ivesons has been providing legal services in the city for 75 years.

The merger means Pepperells incorporating Ivesons now boasts 100 years of knowledge across a vast range of specialities.

Partner Ben Pepperell said the move to Hull was spurred by a realisation of the area’s vast potential.

He said: “We thought the location was a fantastic opportunity and the building was very impressive.

“After we did a bit of market research, we were quite interested with the nature of the market in Hull and the polarities, which match our business ethos.

“We look to serve clients from all walks of life and we are very much an all-round service provider. We provide all elements of law to whoever walks through the door, so the location is ideal.

“This means we can offer a wider range of specialist knowledge to our clients.”

The firm can act for large or small business clients, in divorces and family matters, in personal injury or employment cases, in crime and all property transactions.

Mr Pepperell said the location had proved ideal for the expanding firm in terms of footfall and easy access.

He said; “It’s the central business district in Hull and it is also near the courts, as well as being in the city centre. The building itself is very historic and it has a nice frontage, which looks on to the Guildhall, so we are really pleased.”

The sale, for an undisclosed sum, was organised by Beverley Road property agent Garness Jones.

Paul White, surveyor at the firm, said he was pleased he had been able to match the expanding firm with the right office and said he was impressed with how Pepperells had revamped the interior.

He said: “It is a beautiful building, which had been vacant for a couple of years.

“Pepperells has refurbished the office to a fantastic standard. It really is impressive. I would like to wish them all the best for the future.”

Pepperells first announced its initial expansion to Hull when it took over a glass office offce at the front of Paragon Station, next to St Stephen’s.

The unit, or “Pod”, is a drop-in centre for new and existing clients.

Mr Pepperell said: “People can go to the Pod for advice and general information on legal services and they will then be directed from there.”
