A freight forwarding company has been forced to relocate its Hull office in order to make way for a new city academy.

World Cargo Logistics, which is headquartered in Surrey, set up its first Northern office in a small mobile base, on West Carr Lane, in east Hull five years ago.

Within a year the expanding team moved to the Pavilion Office Park, in north Hull, where they hoped to stay.

But last year World Cargo's Hull staff were told they would have to vacate the Pavilion by the end of 2010 as the building is to be demolished to make way for the new Northern Academy.

The six strong team have now found an alternative home at the Omega House in Cottingham.

World Cargo wished to maintain a presence in the Hull area which provides business for the company through the Humber ports complex.

Sue Careshaw, operations manager for World Cargo in Hull, said: "I think the company chose to stay in this area because of the business coming out of this area."

Since setting up in Hull, World Cargo have used their presence in the city as a springboard for further expansion.

The firm now also has offices in Manchester, Leicester, Wrexham and Lichfield.

Mrs Careshaw said the recession had forced the business to branch out and specialise in a range of different areas.

She said: "We're doing alright following the recession, we've had to move forward and switch what we do and concentrate on different areas.

"The other offices have different core areas.

"In Hull we specialise in deep sea movements, forwarding container cargos worldwide over the oceans."

The Hull team started looking for a new office three months ago and moved into Omega House at the start of August.

Although being forced out of the Pavilion has been difficult Mrs Careshaw claims their new premises could end up being better.

She said: "It is lovely. We can open the door and get lots of fresh air.

"And it has more storage space."

The letting deal on the new office was overseen by Paul White, surveyor at Garness Jones.
