Business is blooming for grow your own firm

AN EAST Yorkshire inventor who took the design world by storm with his efforts to make gardening accessible to all is enjoying a growth of his business.

Robin Rose's first creation to hit the market was the Sticklebag – a complete growing kit comprising of collapsible canes and compressed peat-free compost block, which enabled gardeners to grow fruit, vegetables or flowers in the smallest of spaces.

The award-winning design, which is now sold at the Eden Project, on TV shopping channels and in garden centres across the country, was quickly followed by the Grow Station – a compact stand with everything needed to grow plants and produce.

Robin's passion for gardening, and his desire to spark that passion in others, led to more inventions, such as the Sproutapouch, which, when placed on a windowsill, will grow a micro-salad in just days.

His business, Higrow in Beeford, is now sending pallets of his creations across the globe, creating blooming gardens in tight spaces everywhere from Japan to Germany.

And now Higrow's famous Sticklebag is set to capture a new audience after the company teamed up with Thompson And Morgan to create the This Morning Patio Kit for ITV.

The product, which is being produced under licence from Higrow, has led the Beeford-based firm to expand.

In a bid to cope with demand, the green-thinking company has now taken on an additional unit next door to its original base.

Mr. Rose said: "Higrow aims to create products that enable people to grow things who wouldn't normally be able to.

"All the products we have are extremely eco sound and educational, so they are great for children as well as the elderly and people with very little space."
