Flexibility is name of the game at The Deep centre

09/02/2011

ONE of the region’s most high profile office developments is putting flexibility first and offering hot-desking as a solution to businesses trying to beat the downturn.

The Deep Business Centre will mark its tenth year of operation during 2011 and is currently working on a programme of events to celebrate the occasion.

But business and corporate manager Freya Cross is also working on increasingly flexible ideas to strengthen the support on offer to clients on the way up in the corporate world – and on the way down.

“When we opened The Deep Business Centre, we paid careful attention to the services that businesses needed most at that time,” said Ms Cross who moved to open the centre after working in other prominent office complexes in the area.

“At that time, it was services like telephones and broadband services, making sure businesses had state-of-the-art communications equipment.

“Now, we are looking at making more space available for hot-desking, because we think it could be the way forward for a lot of people with businesses down-sizing and with individuals setting up on their own after redundancy.

“People from big corporate firms tend to know what they want from new premises.

“We can accommodate their wish lists and we also offer very flexible, easy-in easy-out terms which are particularly suitable for businesses unsure about future staffing levels.

“The needs of individuals vary, but we can still look after them by offering a hot-desking service.

“It may be that they just need workspace for a day every now and then.

“They can get their calls diverted here and they can host business meetings here if they need to promote a more professional profile.

“”Some people pursue the hot-desking option because they need a change every now and then from the isolation of working from home and they find it helpful to be among other people to exchange ideas.

“Others need the discipline of going to the office to work.”

With office space at the Deep in high demand, Ms Cross is even considering converting a meeting room to accommodate more hot-desking if necessary.

“It is something we could do easily,” she said.

”There is only one vacant office at the moment in which we could fit up to eight people, but if the demand was there, we could equip a meeting room with high-specification furniture to provide the quality workspace people need.”

Paul White, office specialist at the Garness Jones agency, said hot-desking is making a comeback and is well suited to the facilities at The Deep.

He said: “Hot-desking is in demand in the current economic climate and works well in other parts of the country.

“It offers business people the best of both worlds and at The Deep the services are very high standard at surprisingly low cost, as demonstrated by the consistently high occupancy rate.

“It offers business people the best of both worlds and at The Deep the services are a very high standard at surprisingly low cost, as demonstrated by the high occupancy rate.” It is a high-quality facility that is very well managed by a very knowledgeable and helpful team, led by Freya.”
