Top marks for Grade A Brewery House offices

 HISTORICAL features and state-of-the-art design meet face-to-face in one of the city's latest developments.

Developed by Allenby Commercial, Brewery House in The Maltings is believed to be the largest Grade A office building to be built speculatively in the current market.

The developers have spent about £2.5 million transforming the premises, which used to be home to Hull's brewery. Energy efficiency plays a huge part in its design, with features such as heat and cool devices throughout.

However, it is the historic features that have been retained, complemented with eye-catching contemporary elements such as backlit walls and designer resin floors and high-end finishes including Villeroy Boch sanitary ware, stainless steel, chrome and glazing throughout, that make the building unique.

Paul Hought, contracts manager of Allenby Commercial, said: "From a developer's point of view, green credentials are very important and there is no point building something that is expensive to run or burns more carbon than it should.

"For example, the original Victorian windows have been salvaged and lined so they are very thermally efficient."

Original timber posts support the roof, with any that could not be salvaged replaced with posts constructed by Kingston Craftsman in Cannon Street.

Mr Hought said: "Allenby has always employed local people and contractors where possible. And by developing this speculatively until a tenant came along, it has kept our people in employment."
