Launch pad for new business

Would-be entrepreneurs are being urged to capitalise on opportunities that could help provide the perfect launch pad for fledgling business ideas.

Each year, hundreds of people from our region launch their own business, but there are thousands more currently sitting on an idea - and are either too scared to take the first step, or unaware of the advice and support available.

Now, commercial property agents across Hull and East Yorkshire are encouraging those with dreams of starting their own venture to take advantage of property market conditions and combine this with a wealth of advice and support on offer.

Dave Garness, Managing Director of Garness Jones, said: “There are a lot of good property deals out there for new businesses, however some people come to us with really good ideas but have no idea how to put a business plan together.

“Banks used to have a small business advisor in every branch but things have now changed.

“And Government cuts have affected organisations such as Business Link, which used to provide important services and support for start-ups. However there are now organisations locally that can help and new businesses need to know they can turn to these for support.”

Mr Garness pointed to organisations such as Sirius Business Advice Centre in Hedon, which can offer support and help secure funding, and the For Entrepreneurs Only Group (FEO), an organisation set up and run by some of the region’s most influential entrepreneurs.

The FEO’s aim is to drive East Yorkshire’s economy by informing new business start-ups and helping people to grow existing businesses, creating jobs and wealth locally.

Other organisations that could prove vital to new businesses include KC, which has launched the KC Invest Fund – an investment fund of £300,000 available to provide start-up and growth financing for businesses in the digital and technology sectors.

So if you are thinking of launching your own business do not be afraid to ask. Your agent can let you know of suitable properties and may be able to point you to some organisations who will help you turn your business into a thriving success.
