A stunning new health and wellbeing spa has opened in an East Yorkshire property which housed one of the region’s best-known restaurants for decades.
The Mill House, in Beverley Road, Skidby, is now the home to Nu Health, offering facilities including a medical aesthetics clinic, infrared sauna, plunge pool and jacuzzi, ice baths and an oxygen chamber.
Members will also benefit from Pilates classes and hydrotherapy and massage therapy in an environment which includes a dedicated relaxation and wellness suite, designed to help people ‘relax, recover and feel their best’.
The business has been launched by Amy Hills, who has an established reputation in the healthcare sector through her other businesses, award-winning Kingswood Parks Dental & Skin Clinic and Nu Skn, which offers advanced skin rejuvenation and non-surgical aesthetic treatments and will now also be based at the spa.
£300,000 refurbishment to offer ‘high-quality’ environment
Amy says she has long held ambitions of opening a high-quality health and wellness spa in East Yorkshire, offering treatments many people have to travel out of the county to access in recent times.
“This has been a long-term vision and goal of mine and a natural progression from Nu Skn, with a focus on offering services and treatments which are clinically proven to bring major health benefits,” she said.
“I’d looked at potentially using the former Sessions Spa premises in Beverley but it wasn’t really the right space or layout, so I spoke to Paul White at Garness Jones and he suggested that I take a look at the Mill House.
“As soon as I walked into the grounds, I knew it was the perfect setting and building. It’s in a beautiful location with stunning views from the balcony.
“It’s needed extensive refurbishment but there were many stunning features that we have retained during the refurbishment. We’ve done it all in three months. Thankfully I have family involved in the building trade and good contacts, but it has been hectic and challenging to get to where we are today.”
Following a £300,000 investment, the building has been transformed with the Spa opening at the beginning of August.
Although memberships are required, day passes to use all the facilities are available, and the onsite ‘Detox Café’ is open to non-members.
“We’re offering a place to help people relax, recover and feel their best,” Amy added.
“We’ve made the prices very reasonable compared to what people pay when travelling further afield. We’ve had a fantastic initial response from people so I am really confident it will prove a huge success. It’s offering something new and different in the region.”
Property attracted strong interest from businesses
The 7,356 sq ft building was home to the Mill House Restaurant for more than 30 years, but it closed in 2024 following a fire which caused smoke damage throughout.
Paul White, director of Garness Jones, handled negotiations on the letting and said: “We were always confident this building would attract a lot of interest, especially as given the property fell under the Class E category, allowing easy change to a wide range of business activities.
“It attracted strong interest from a variety of potential occupiers, including medical practices, opticians, nurseries and office users, but we felt Amy’s ambitious vision for the property stood out from the outset.
“The transformation of the building has been exceptional, breathing new life into a well-known local landmark while preserving its important place within the community.
